General VedPrakash Malik, the 19th Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, has been honored with the AtiVishishtSeva Medal and the ParamVishishtSeva Medal for his distinguished service, notably during the Kargil War. As Army Chief, he managed over a million troops and served as a key advisor to the government, overseeing crucial anti-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir and northeast India, as well as managing complex border issues with China and Pakistan.
Gen. Malik led Operation Vijay in 1999, successfully repelling Pakistan's intrusion in Kargil-Siachen. His extensive military career and role on the National Security Advisory Board have provided him deep insights into India’s security challenges. In 2007, he was appointed to a panel by Hewitt Associates to rank Asia Pacific’s top companies for leaders, in collaboration with Fortune Magazine. He has authored two books, "Kargil: From Surprise to Victory" and "India’s Military Conflicts and Diplomacy".
